SLB has launched Tela, an agentic AI assistant designed to transform oil and gas exploration and production workflows, the company said on Monday.
Unveiled in Abu Dhabi, Tela will be embedded in SLB’s suite of applications and platforms, enabling users to interact via a conversational interface. The technology employs a five-step agentic loop – observe, plan, generate, act and learn – allowing autonomous and collaborative operation in tasks such as interpreting well logs and optimising equipment.
Tela is powered by SLB’s Lumi data and AI platform, combining large language and domain foundation models to understand industry contexts and adapt workflows in real time. The solution is available on cloud or on premises.
“Tela doesn’t just automate tasks – it can understand goals, make decisions and take action,” SLB digital and integration president Rakesh Jaggi said. “It’s the convergence of 100 years of domain science and cutting-edge digital technology.”
SLB’s AI offering includes over 165 enterprise-scale solutions that automate tasks, optimise processes and accelerate decision making across the energy value chain. These solutions are enabled by the Lumi data and AI platform and supported by the company’s global Innovation Factori centres, which develop and customise AI applications in areas such as subsurface, drilling, production and carbon management.
